Keira Knightley talks starring in Alan Turing drama

British actress Keira Knightley has spoken about starring in The Imitation Game.

Benedict Cumberbatch will be starring in the upcoming drama about gay World War 2 genius Alan Turing.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star is playing Turing’s friend, confidante and one-time fiancée Joan Clarke, who worked alongside him at Bletchley Park.

‘It was an amazing relationship and an amazing friendship that they had,’ Knightley told Digital Spy.

‘It was a friendship that they tried to turn into something else, and obviously it was never going to work. It was really interesting to play around with that.’

Based on a script by first-time screenwriter Graham Moore, the film will follow the wartime hero as he cracks the German Enigma code.

It is expected it will also show his life as it was destroyed by the period’s anti-homosexuality laws.

Harvey Weinstein, who acquired the film for a reported $7 million, has praised Cumberbatch.

He said the Sherlock actor captured the right balance of Turing’s ‘vulnerability’, ‘genius’, and ‘arrogance.’

Norwegian Morten Tyldum will make his English-language directing debut with this film.
